A bit about how I work
Hello!
I’m Sally an Artist and Illustrator based in Devon…..
Since graduating in 2009 with a degree in Illustration and Animation, I have worked in the creative industry, painting for clients like Disney, the BBC, Netflix, various West End productions, and Tate St Ives this year.
My mediums vary but I am most recognised for my charcoal and canvas illustrations. Over the years I developed a style and an original way of working with powdered charcoal where I wash away layers of drawing and refine lines to create soft monotone images. I also enjoy painting with oils as these have a translucently when dragged and have a velvety softness similar to my washing process. For a lot of my illustration work I use Photoshop, either working directly into the program using a graphics tablet or uploading images to add colour or texture.
I draw inspiration from the natural surroundings of Devon and through my own deep connection to nature and animals. I have always been fascinated by the anatomy of animals particularly how movement flows effortlessly through them. In my own paintings I am attempting to translate this fascination into something aesthetic that evokes emotion for the viewer.
I hope you enjoying looking through my work. As most creatives are I am always looking to evolve my practice and am keen to find new collaborations or creative relationships so please do get in touch if you have any ideas you would like to discuss.
Thank you.
