Harry and the Tiger

A bit about me

I trained originally as an illustrator, studying Illustration and animation at Bristol UWE and I graduated in 2009. I continued living in Bristol for a number of years after working as scenic artist and started my own limited company in 2011. I then moved to Devon in 2018 to pursue my dream of being a full-time artist and spending more time in nature, and having a professional studio with my dog Harry.

For my most part I work directly on unprimed cotton canvas building up layers of charcoal by washing it into the weave. I then re-draw, adjusting lines and marks, refining and removing anyunnecessary information. After leaving each layer to dry I spray set the canvas.

This process of distilling the image using humble, natural materials and pulling on classical drawing techniques creates a simple but intimate image. There is velvety softness with this method, like a fond memory.

Harry has sadly passed on, but his legacy remains and he will always be part of me and my logo! I do now have two dogs Freddy and Lily, and work combining my love of nature and animals. through painting and drawing.

Harry

This was Harry my English Bull Terrier. He was my best friend and muse for 12 years. He was the strangest and kindest animal I have ever known, and with all his peculiarities he inspired many tales from which I have made multiple illustrations. In my efforts to capture his gentle energy I have created a way working unique to me, and immortalise his memory.
